You’ve probably heard rumors about the fact that there’s a spiritual awakening on college campuses around the nation, and from what I’ve witnessed, those rumors are true.I’ve spent the last couple weekends speaking at 2 different Cru Fall Retreats—one in central Pennsylvania, and one in upstate New York—and it’s been amazing to see the hunger students have for Jesus.
As I did 5 talks over each weekend, had private conversations with individual young men and women, answered questions at a formal Q&A time, and looked into the watery eyes of several students while talking about God, I’ve concluded that the next generation has something VERY special going on within it.
These young people are the real deal. They want to read their Bibles. They want to kill their sin. They want to share their faith. They want to push back on the anger and cynicism they see in our culture.
In short, they want to live out what they were created for—to know God and to make him known.
But they aren’t immune to the issues that Gen Z is facing…Being raised on access to the internet from the time they were born comes with a whole new set of problems…namely among them, loneliness.
There’s a deep sense of longing to connect with Jesus and the others around them, but sometimes the obstacles they experience can distract and overwhelm the most sincere desire to engage with God and his people.
That’s just one of the reasons I wrote Why We’re Feeling Lonely (and what we can do about it). It’s an intentional, short book that directly addresses the root causes of loneliness the next generation is experiencing, and gives gospel solutions to each issue.
If you or someone you know is wrestling with loneliness, know that you aren’t alone in your struggles. God sees you, knows you, loves you, and wants you to know how close he really is to you. And on New Year’s Day (January 1, 2026), I want to remind you of the truth and help you push back on the loneliness epidemic so many are suffering from.
